I don't know why I came up with this but maybe a keychain is the main source of light in a keyblade and with more darkness overpowering it the keychain disappers over a period of time becoming a dark keyblade, and with no keychain the keyblade is vunerable to darkness controlling it. The result-a dark keyblade.

I like this idea, and i also think that a keychain links the keyblade to a persons heart. That is why they can lie around and others can weild them when the don't have a keychain.
I like that theory. And it seems to make sense in a way. The key-chain linking together with it's wielder, and when a keyblade doesn't have one, it can be used by anyone. And the key-chain being the 'fragment' of light of the keyblade. Without it, it becomes overpowered, the end result, a dark keyblade.Nice theory.
Yea I agree good theory. Maybe only the keyblades with keychains can open the door to kingdom hearts.
