What is so sad about Axel?

He dies and he is the only good organization member. He is betrayed by all his friends and he gives up his life to save his best friend.
That kindas sucks for him...Oh well thanks
the point is that when Roxas left the org, Axel wanted to have his best friend back, and in order to do so, he had to work out a plan to avoid that Sora and Roxas would fuse together again.
Now, Diz intercepts Roxas when he had just left, and erases his memory and places him in Twilight town.
Axel comes there to look for him, and tries to convince him to come back to the order. When Roxas defeats him in battle, Axel lets him go.
He realises that he's been selfish, and that if he wants to keep Roxas, then Roxas would never be complete.
So in the end, he helps Sora to make sure Sora and Roxas meet and that his friend can become whole again.
Somewhere inbetween he takes Kairi with him, then loses her to Saix (by then he's officially considered a traitor to the order) and gets some serious butt-kicking I believe, because he's all tired in his last battle on the side of Sora.
When they're surrouned by nobodies, Axel goes all kamikaze in a huge explosion-attack, and kills himself in it, I think because he kinda overexerted himself in that attack.
Before he vanishes, he tells Sora to meet up with Roxas and opens up the gate through which Sora can continue.
