I've equipped my weapon, the Twilight Kingdom Key, but when I fight it only says 'use fists'. What's going on?

Weapons can't be used to attack. They just up your stats. This is because only one category can be chosen for attack items, so since we have four weapon categories, we can't. You can only use fists and rings to attack.
