Kingdom Hearts III Teased in Latest 2.5 Trailer!

Fans of the Kingdom Hearts series were given a wonderful treat at the end of the newest Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX- E3 2014 trailer earlier this evening. A brief, but intense tease of Kingdom Hearts III featuring two young gentlemen discussing the legend of the Keyblade War was shown and has since inspired dozens of new discussions surrounding the brief dialogue.
Who are the two men talking with each other & who are the "lost masters" they are referring to?
"Have you heard of the ancient Keyblade War? Many years ago, Keyblade wielders started a war over the ownership of light."
"Yep, the Master loves telling that story."
"Then I take it you also know of the "lost masters"?"
"Nope, where'd you hear about that?"
"On that land shall darkness prevail and light expire. But you knew that, didn't you?"
While it is yet unconfirmed who the two males are, it is undeniable that they are Xehanort and Eraqus as young apprentices during their time in the Land of Departure. You can see Xehanort's gloved hand and both Xehanort's & Eraqus' trademark hairstyles in the sketch that has been inverted and enhanced below:
As to who the "lost masters" are, it is possible this is in reference to the Foretellers from the non-canon social game Kingdom Hearts χ[chi]. While the game itself is not canon to the series, earlier this year in January, an important piece of dialogue was revealed within the game's ongoing scenario that tied Kingdom Hearts χ[chi] and Kingdom Hearts III together. It was revealed by Chirithy, one of the characters who guides the player on their journey to gather light in order to save the World from darkness, that the Foretellers knew of the fate of the future:
Before my master, He who created me, disappeared,
He bestowed His six followers with new names, and gave five of them a tome of prophecy.
These five followers, who were to become the Foretellers, read the future written in the tome.
Apparently a passage written on the last page shocked them.
"The war in that place will lead to the defeat and destruction of the Light.
The World will be enveloped in eternal Darkness."In order to save the future World, the five Foretellers thought to use the power hidden in the tome of prophecy.

i notice it but not the first time. The first time I was just gazing at the beautiful bbs scenes in hd. I think we're definitely gonna get something in regards to kh3. If. It's like a teaser trailer all tgs 2004 for kh2 so be it. It may reveal a world or two.

I figured. Too bubbly to be chains. Although, I'm up for a new KH3 logo being revealed. Don't know why, but the current one looks... weird to me. It looks cartoony. It's hard to describe, but all the previous logos have this sharp clarity to them, but the KH3 logo looks like it got a little drop of Comic Sans in there or something.

There is this old saying that it is darkest before the dawn, so things going further downhill and getting more dire before completely turned around with a full U-turn of Sora and his friends to save the day is actually pretty common storytelling. You can find it in nearly every season/arc finale of any series or many last films/books in a row.
In Star Wars the Battle of Endor with the operative Death Star and the Emperor revealing that it was all a trap,
LoTR with the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and Black Gate, Frodo succumbing to the ring etc. are just two examples.
Since KH III is the "season"/arc finale for the first saga of KH I expect something along those lines.

Nah it's like Wikipedia pretty much. Anybody can edit it. I can't wait for e3. I'm suspecting something along the lines of tgs 2004 showing off at last one new world and a returning world. New world should be frozen or aizar world.

Xehanort is essentially accusing Eraqus of withholding information, and we all know it's not unlike ME to keep secrets. If there wasn't a rift before this particular discussion, the cracks are definitely showing now. DRAMAAA

The Keyblade Graveyard most likely, which is where the first war came to a head and is the "fated place" for the 18 SoDs and 7 GoLs to meet.
Xehanort was always drawn to power, and I think something that strong that could extinguish the light would definitely catch his attention. He was really young when he stopped wearing his protective armor when traveling the Lanes Between, which gave him exposure to the darkness.
Eraqus, being the stern and rigid guy he is, probably took his master's words to heart and began to subconsciously fear something that could ruin the universe and it was how he morphed into the Light-driven guy we know in BBS.

Exactly. It's acceptable, due to Disney's presence. Just like the dark is for the Final Fantasy, not to say either isn't capable of being cheesy or dark.

And I think even some parts of KH are much more dark when you actually sit down and think about them. Human experiments, torture, mental and physical abuse, kidnapping, murder (because let's face it Xehanort essentially almost killed Ven and was going to leave him to die on Destiny Islands), and the fact all of this is happening to kids & teenagers is even worse because this isn't stuff any child should have to deal with.
But then the Disney side almost veils it all and distracts you. And yet this series is still so cheery and cute even without the Disney stuff. It's a pretty unique position for a game to be in. I can't think of any other video game series that does this.

Xehanort grows bitter, and when he's finally allowed to travel on his own he decides to rebel against his master's orders...all the while his master has been observing him and notices the changes happening to him and wrongly believes that there is a chance he can change him. He declares both Xehanort and Eraqus masters, but only Eraqus is declared the successor to the Land of Depature and Xehanort realizes there is nothing left for him in LoD so he goes on a journey across the worlds to continue learning & searching for the answers he craves, then before he realizes it he's an old man who has accomplished nothing.

You mean good cheesy or bad cheesy? It wasn't very clear what you mean, because even the Tales series is cheesy, but it like many, doesn't try to be all dark and serious. Some series can't work like that.

The thing I love about KH especially that no other series has EVER managed to pull off is the perfect balance of cheery and dark themes that this series has. I love dark games, but I feel so many games try way too hard to be dark visually and cinematically that it kinda just feels depressing, not dark. The key to the "dark" feel of games is in the emotions given to the player, not the game itself. Like Dark Souls. Plenty of places look dark and depressing, but the game only feels dark because you're scared out of your wits of being killed.
Same thing with KH. The story makes it dark without being a dystopian X-Men DoFP type setup, and yet, at the same time, there's Disney cheerfulness in there that not only blends in with the dark atmosphere (Like Mickey. I mean seriously, I cannot look at Mickey and not see him as a Keyblade wielding badass anymore) but also counteracts it, so that you get this great harmony of childhood nostalgia and RPG action.
It's a flawless balance of light and dark, which I think is an amazing coincidence given that the series revolves around those two forces balancing each other.

What's the piano song that plays during this scene? I know the first part is Dearly Beloved but whats the second? Is it new?
It's from an old piano collection. It's just a long rendition of Dearly Beloved. I believe it's titled something like 'concert paraphrase on dearly beloved'.
The fact they have that KH3 tease at the end of the 2.5 trailer makes me believe that there will be a secret Unlockable KH3 video in 2.5 even more. And again I think that's why we won't see anything new of KH3 at E3, because the new info is hidden in 2.5 remix.
I'm also very interested about this old masters plot we're being teased with. Perhaps Xehanort isn't the biggest villain after all? Or maybe one of the old masters will be the shocking reveal Nomura is referring to?

I've never thought of this! That would be pretty freaking cool. If there is a secret KH3 video or report, I hope the requirements to unlock it aren't absolutely insane, like earn %100 completion in both games and watch all of Re:Coded. I'm gonna do that anyway (gotta get those platinums!), if there's anything KH3, I'll want to see it!

I've never really understood how so many come to this assumption. There's nothing (literally) saying they all trained together, only Xehanort and Eraqus. o_o

It's really just because of his comment about "walking the path of the Master" with them, and the fact that there are three thrones in the Land of Departure. So everyone didn't think too much of it and assumed that he filled in the remaining seat.
It may not be the correct assumption, but it's not completely farfetched and still makes sense when you consider the information provided. Overall, it's just a case of jumping to conclusions without having enough support.

I too assumed Yen Sid was the "grand master" of Land of Departure, before he "doffed that mantle". I'm not sure why, now that I think about it. He just seems like he would be, even though there's no evidence to support the idea at all. I guess it's probably because we fill in the blanks with the information that we have. So, instead of imagining an as-yet unknown character, we assume it to be Yen Sid, since we know of his past as a Master and he's part of the cast. Jumping to conclusions, I suppose :P
That was such an awesome trailer! I am so excited! Re:coded is looking amazing, especially the scene with Data Sora and Data Riku battling. Wow!

But how would "Erauqs" be pronounced? Its likely that Eraqus' current name is what it is due to pronunciation issues.

Probably it's Eraqus instead of Erauqs since Q is always followed with U in the English language, and they noticed this.

That ending of the trailer is too cryptic to really be deciphered. All we can do is guess and theorize about the ending it's not like they actually gave us anything we can use to figure out what KH 3 is going to be about... For all we know the trailer could have little to do with the story.

That actually something I thought of as well. You know how we had 6 days(or was it 7? anyway, you'll get the point) with Roxas in KH2? Maybe we will begin with 6 days in KH3 starting from when Xehanort is on the island, then it ends on the 6th day with MX in his 20's talking about the lost masters. Then it starts KH3.

Maybe we will begin with 6 days in KH3 starting from when Xehanort is on the island, then it ends on the 6th day with MX in his 20's talking about the lost masters. Then it starts KH3.
So instead of 6 straight days we get 6 separate days spanning years? That's an interesting idea and would allow us to learn more about who Xehanort is and why he's doing the things he's doing.
