The bigger the worlds, the more memory it would've taken up in the actual game. And if that happened, it might've made the game be two discs instead of one, thus making it more expensive.
Besides, I dunno about anyone else, but at the beginning of KH2 I got lost in twilight town so much. XD I still get lost, actually, in the tunnels.
Radiant Garden's pretty big too, though they made some worlds smaller, like Halloween town.
