Naminè is the one whose powers can truly serve a plot purpose in KH3. How that's handled will depend on the game itself.
She could be the key that connects the result of the characters' ultimate fates, a Nort (though this is extremely risky, I doubt it), or will be a player in resolving the war.
If Nomura misses this chance, he's an idiot.
Really? To me, Naminè is the female character who has gone through the most development. The Kairis tend to have a basic, bland mold (like they're peas from the same pea pod), and while they react to their circumstances and deliberate their choices, their personalities remain the same from the beginning of their agency to the end.
Naminè is one out of the two (the other being Aqua, but it can be argued) I can say proceeded from one spectrum and slowly moved into the other in terms of personality. The Naminè from CoM is not the one seen in KHII, heck, not even the one seen at the end of CoM. She started out a meek, quiet, doormat, taking the abuse given, and was a very lonely person who desired people/friends/company. She was forced to mess with a person's memories for the purpose of making him a puppet, something which she felt horrible about. Once presented with the opportunity to turn things around thanks to Axel by escaping, however, she switches from wallflower to a proactive force by revealing the truth. Showing us there's more to her than first realized, it simply needed to be harnessed away from the supressing influences of the Organization members. There's a fighter inside.
Despite her actions, this person forgives her, and it ultimately gives her strength. Strength enough to defy Marluxia and step in the way of Larxene weaponless. She's a damsel in distress because she was born and conditioned into the role. The poor girl spent majority of her life behind walls until KHII. And even then she isn't a damsel in distress. She forced herself into the position because it was part of the plot in the game and what Marluxia's manipulation to get Sora to do whatever he wanted was based off of. It was a good subversion not only of the Mary Sue trope, but of the Damsel in Distress trope.
In the end, Naminè was left with nothing, Sora chose his past memories over hers, he would forget about the events concerning CO as a consequence, and Naminè has since committed to restoring him to make up for her mistakes. She's now alone again, but she's different.
The strength and confidence she gained expands into KHII. Just the way she approaches Roxas, a guy, with so much bluntness, certainty, and power immediately shows that this girl grew some steel cajones. She further fights and ruins Diz's plan by hijacking his data, allowing Roxas a chance of choice, and breaks Kairi out of her cell. She then squares up with Kairi when confronting Saïx.
Both Roxas and Kairi were the damsels and she's the one who saved/aided them in an interesting twist.
Naminè accomplished helping others without a single keyblade in her grasp.
CoM Naminè =/= KHII Naminè.
It's interesting seeing her change and grow, while still having a lack of self worth (this might be due because she has long accepted her fate and existence).
One of my favorite female characters in KH besides Larxene, by far.
Injustice from Nomura was administered by not having her in the sneak peek. I will hold it against him until further notice.

I just feel like she had the potential to be a really interesting female character, but even though she could've defended herself and had her own journey just fine, this whole aspect of her character was cut so she could be some damsel in distress. I really hope they treat her well from here on out, this whole cast has so much untapped potential.
