Playing .avi

how do you play .avi format in Windows Movie Maker/Windows Media Player, for some reason it will only play the sound, can someone help me?

uh I'm not sure but you may not have the proper codec installed.

That program will help you determine what codecs you need to play the .avi file and to see if the proper codecs are installed already. Then if you're missing like an audio codec try finding it with google xP

DiVx. Actually, if you just want to play the files, you can use VLC Player. This amazing program is small, fast, and has never failed me in playing any type of video files whether it be .avi or .mkv or etc.

well I'm trying to learn to make AMV's but .avi formats are like the only type of file I can get, and they don't work in Windows Movie Maker, that's why I want to know how to make it work with Windows Media Player

Download the DivX codec.. I think that should solve your problem.

Download this and when it ask what you wanted installed make sure only the divx codec is selected enless you want the player to been installed then select every thing.
