Do you seriously think they'd create this whole area simply for an event? I doubt that. I'm pretty sure it'll get relevant to the story sooner or later and they just decided to use it because if fits or something.

i know for right now it was used for a halloween type event

The dialogue in the event has characters stating that the area gives them a bad feeling.

So yeah, this room will probably be important relatively soon.
