Substance and shadow-remains, our phantasms, ignite
against our cruel fates and that future which they command:
darkness and void in the absence of empathy's light.
Our wills are uncaring for all but our purpose, and
fluster our minds with their visions of earlier times.
Against our cruel fates and that future which they command,
much can be pondered, though little restores us the climes
of brightness and memory. Hearts torn from other lives
fluster our minds with their visions of earlier times.
Yet each of us wishes, and wanting, each of us strives.
Moonlight streams down from above us in radiant waves
of brightness and memory. Hearts torn from other lives,
fragmented entities, rest in our luminous grave.
But effort's in vain-- we are nothings, doomed to be flawed.

and mocks our device, through the cosmos is overawed.
