It's been a few months since the announcement that The World Ends With You would be getting a sequel, however that silence will soon come to an end.

It was confirmed in a tweet from Tetsuya Nomura that information on Neo: The World Ends With You will be released at 3pm JST on April 9th, just a couple of hours before the pilot episode of The World Ends With You: -The Animation- airs.

A rough translation of the tweet is available below:

It's been a while since our first announcement, but we'll be releasing new information about #NEOTWEWY on the 9th at 15:00 (Japan time), a few hours before the first episode of the #TWEWY anime airs next week. We'll also be tweeting about the game on this account. We hope you enjoy this evening's special episode. @Nomura

While there hasn't been any formal information released from Square Enix, we have learnt that Neo: The World Ends With You has been rated in Australia and Germany.

Neo: The World Ends With You is slated to be released this summer on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Oh nice. I'm curious to see what more we will learn about this sequel. I'm still trying to figure out how Minamimoto fits into NEO.

Why is it a sequel to the anime, but not the game?

Probably to account for all the changes they're making for the anime, maybe taking into account the stuff added in all the ports too. It'd serve as the "definitive edition," essentially. The updated, modern setting is probably the biggest factor though. TWEWY was very much a product of its times, and unfortunately those times were well over a decade ago. Wouldn't seem believable for only 3 years to have passed between it and the sequel.
