so in the past i've watched some of the Studio Ghibli films (Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, The Cat Returns, and Spirited Away) and i really thought they were pretty good.

does anyone have any favorite anime films that they recommend? maybe other Ghibli films or something else completely?

i heard that Evangelion is supposed to be pretty good.

no, i haven't watched that one. that's a Ghibli film, right? i assume it's about a princess lol.

Technically yes, but not in the way that you're thinking. (and yes, it's by Ghibli)

I haven't watched the EVA movies yet (gotta get around to that) but from what I've heard/read, the 2nd movie was far superior to the 1st.

The only other Ghibli movies that come to mind right now is My Neighbor Totoro and Ponyo. Other than that, you could try:

Grave of the Fireflies
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal
Paprika
Metropolis
The Sky Crawlers
Sword of the Stranger
Summer Wars

(I'm sure there are many other good ones, but that's all I can think of right now)

Watch Summer Wars, it was my fav movie of '09. It has a Miyazaki/Ghibli feel to it.

Not exactly, but it is a good movie.I bought an OVA for $3 from a Big Lots! store called Baldr Force Exe. It's dubbed by Funimation, but has the original audio too. It's 4 episodes long and it was pretty good.It reminds me of Dot Hack, Ghost in the shell, and mecha combined.

Blood: The Last Vampire is something that is really good, only downside to this movie is it's length.

Wow, I just remembered:

Voices of a Distant Star
Place Promised in Our Early Days
Five Centimeters per Second

I can't believe I forgot about Shinkai's work :\

I reccommend this too even though it's short. lettuce

There appears to be a lack of Akira being mentioned here.

The Girl who Leapt Through Time is pretty good.

Last I checked, most movies based on their main series were not all that great.

My favs:

Princess Mononoke (still epic after all these years)
Paprika (Satoshi Kon + Hirasawa Susumu = WIN)
Millenium Actress (again)
Grave of the Fireflies (very sad, made me cry)
Howl's Moving Castle
Laputa: The Castle in the Sky
Nausicaa
Akira (Kudos to Becoming X for mentioning it)
Ninja Scroll

Ghost in the Shell and Blood: The Last Vampire are great recommendations.
Memories is a good movie too and you could probably try Escaflowne as well.
