I knew it. I knew in the deepest pit of my stomach they were never going to let that stupid LTD rest in peace. The moment they announced the remake I was hoping, desperately praying, that it would leave the LTD alone even when the remake introduced new plot devices and twists from the original. The final word on the FTOIL should've solved it, even if it left one or two factions severely unsatisfied.

But nope.

That LTD's one of the biggest draw of the Compilation. Of course they'd touch it.

The shippers are going to go insane and ruin it. Especially when they're going to argue which of their ship is canon.

Gah! I never, ever wanted to see the VII shipping wars come back to life, arguably the most sensitive and contentious shipping war of its time way back when, but it's back, and with a vengeance.

Gotta love that song though.


Edit: I was hesitant for the longest time in buying the remake because of the potential ship wars, but I eventually caved. I guess I have to buy Rebirth and see this through, even if I hate the LTD with an absolute burning fury. With all that said, A callback to other games of the franchise is certainly unexpected but really welcome.

Fourth Edit: Okay, okay, I'm calm. I'm determined to see this game through since I caved and bought the remake...I just...have to ignore the Pinkers and Cloti Shippers and their weird pink fortress/water tower.

I personally appreciate all the interpersonal relationships between the characters in this series. Each one has its place in the overall narrative and I’m glad they aren’t shying away from it in the remake series. I might make a joking comment now and then like the one above, but that’s about it.

Trying to erase one relationship or the other is just childish. And harassing the devs is straight up insane. Of course this game is going to focus more in Cloud and Aerith’s relationship. The section of the OG that it covers has very little Tifa in it. After the Kalm flashback, she really doesn’t come back into an active role until after the events at the Whirlwind Maze, which will be in Part 3. Unless they veer extremely off course from the original, Tifa and Cloud’s relationship will be a central part of that game. So any upset “fans” just need to calm down, play the original, and be patient for Part 3.

That said, when you have certain people harassing the devs for having Aerith sing the song in Loveless instead of Jessie, the Cloti vs Clerith stuff doesn’t seem so bad.

LTD=Love Triangle Debate - An old term used in VII fandom circles since forever and ever and ever. It pertains to the infamous ship war that seems to never die. It's something fans of the OG who matured and moved on in life but are still part of the fandom for nostalgia reasons dread and fear with ever fibre of their being. Has been known to cause tensions even to fans of other mainline titles.

FTOIL="For The One I Love" - A compilation of love tributes to every Final Fantasy couple that existed thus far during the series' 20th anniversary. Found in the second book of the 20th Anniversary Ultimania "Scenario". It was thought that the LTD came to an end when the FTOIL brought up the Golden Saucer date scenarios, including Barret, but concluded the ship war by offering tribute to Cloud and a certain girl's mutual affection in confidence of other confirmed canon Final Fantasy couples featured in the tribute, such as Cecil and Rosa, Squall and Rinoa, and Tidus and Yuna. WAS.

I'm just very dismayed that they knew this was a ticking time bomb, but they still poked the bear. And now Nojima is trying to engage with his harassers online when common sense dictates: Do Not Engage. It's feared among the more matured fans that this might result in a KyoAni 2.0 Disaster. It's also exactly why I feared the potential ship war concerning another certain emo blond here in KH.

I’m so hyped. It looks incredible.

I’ve been replaying Remake to ease the wait. At the final battle now and then going to replay Intermission. I’ll probably replay the OG after that.

It also just makes me happy to see SE release two major FF entries back to back with no delays and smooth development. I really hope the trend continues with KH4 and DQXII.

Content creators and media people were invited to an event the other day where they played the first four hours of the game. If they do a demo, I wonder if it’ll be that or what was available at TGS. The former would be nice if the save data could carry over to the main game.

If there is one, i just hope it doesn’t get data mined like Remake’s. From what I understand though, the PS5 can’t be hacked like that yet.

99% sure that was it. Lol. I’m sure we’ll still see some more stuff we haven’t yet. The demo seems to just be the same one that has already been available at the trade shows. I’ll be more excited if they expanded the Nibelheim portion to the full opening and allow save transfer. But I’m not expecting it.

I think the demo is larger than what was at trade shows. There's some Nibelheim footage in the trailer that wasn't part of the demo, such as Sephiroth fighting the dragon in front of the truck.

Nomura really said we need to pace ourselves so we can have half our food now and half later.

This game looks absolutely incredible. They’ve pulled out all the stops. Now I have to somehow resist rewatching that trailer too many times and picking it apart. I want to try to not rewatch anything after playing the demo so it will be as fresh as possible when I play it.

Also, Cissnei is in so automatic GOTY for me!

demo left me a bit less hyped than i was. the squeeze through is back, the forced slow walking in the final part of the demo is terrible, moving the thing to clear up is so slow af. the lack of blood is so noticeable after playing XVI.
i hope when reaching the open-world all this nonsense is gone. almost feels like it was designed for ps4 when they started development.

Lastly, your style as a creator is something that tends to attract attention. How do you think these “Tetsuya Nomura-isms” are incorporated into FFVII Rebirth?


Nomura: I don’t know (laughs). I watch videos of people discussing and commenting on my work here and there, and this is something I think about while I’m watching. Sometimes even lines in the scenario that I didn’t write are called Nomura-isms. It’s funny, isn’t it?


Overall, I think that “Tetsuya Nomura-ism” is something that the players have established regardless of whether I was involved in that aspect or not. Sometimes players who are playing something I had absolutely nothing to do with go “This feels so Nomura,” and I’m thinking “That wasn’t me…” (laughs). However, players’ feelings and impressions are their own, and if they feel something while playing the game then I think that’s fine. Either way, I’m happy if people enjoy the game.

According to Maximilian Dood there's apparently a lot more left to the flashback than the demo showed. I wonder if a certain bossfight from CC is reenacted.
