[an original and literate RPG by GuardianOfHearts]
[.story
Lightning raced across the dark sky, followed closely by the boom of thunder. Rain poured down in an endless wave of sorrow, like falling shards of glass. Amidst the shadow of the storm, a great white form flew against the turbulent winds. The dragon constantly looked over her muscular shoulder, as though searching for some enemy behind her. A large, indistinguishable shape was clutched in her sleek ivory talons, weighing her down slightly, but she beat her wings all the harder to keep well aloft.
Over the clash of thunder around her, a bloodthirsy screech was carried on the fierce winds. A moment later, it was joined by several others as a small flock of midnight-black creatures dove from above the cover of the clouds. They flew on tattered wings and snapped their beaks, gaining on the fleeing dragon. Though each one of the creatures was only a quarter of her size, they used the advantage of number to outweigh her strength. One swooped down to her back leg, the vicious claws that had initially driven her from her cavern raking through the air to rip three slashes in her side. The dragon bellowed and whipped her head back around to bite one of her attackers, but it dodged and alighted on her back, digging its claws into her scales. The others darted around her, giving her small wounds that nonetheless bled fatally, like the stain of scarlet on snow. The pounding rain dripped crimson from her, and she fell a few feet, clutching her charge tighter. One of the demonic creatures flew to her talons and tried to disrupt what she was carrying, but with all the strength and speed of a protector defending a loved one, she reached out and snapped at its neck, effectively killing it and saving her charge. Her pearl-colored eyes were alight with a fiery rage and desperation. She lashed her tail from side to side, trying to beat away her foes, but there were too many, and they were too hungry. And her wounds were too many to keep up....
A sudden sharp pain, far more acute than anything she had suffered beforehand, blossomed from the back of her neck. She dropped several feet, wings outsretched as the creatures gathered at the base of her neck and clawed at the wound. Her keen vision started to dim as she let out a keening wail, not out of physical agony, but of the knowledge that she had failed. As she fell, convusling in her final moments, she opened her talons and finally let go of what she had been clutching. Pure white, metallic dragon feathers spiraled down with the rain as several larger shapes plummeted to the ground so far below. The dragon let out one last cry before the light in her eyes dimmed out, and with that sound, an almost blinding flash lit up the area, enveloping the eggs she had sacrificed herself to save and protecting them from harm as they landed in various places throughout the land....
If anyone had looked up into the stormy sky that night, they might have caught a glimpse of the last remaining dragon, bravely trying to carry her clutch of eggs away to safety after a flock of hungry gryffen-like creatures had chased her from her home in hopes of making her and her eggs their meal.
Ever since the Great War started more than a century ago, when scores of human kingdoms battled against the dragons they had come to fear, their race had been dwindling; nearly wiped out, only the elder dragons could remember a time when there was harmony, when people and dragons sometimes bonded to become Riders. But that was long ago, even before the year when new inhabitans of their world started appearing; fell, dangerous creatures that were equipped with sharp talons, fangs, and bloodthirsty hunger- demons of violence, born from souls of the dead, the result of the massacre people called a "necessary war" that the world itself had been revolted by.
Even after the War ended, both races were not as great as they once were, none more so than the dragons, who had just a scant handful of each other left, and weakened at that. Most humans still held a grudge against the dragons, and it was common for a kingdom to be passively violent to them. One by one, they were killed by the demons or stricken from older wounds, until only white Talithia and her clutch was left. Knowing that if her children did not grow and prosper dragons would be gone forever, she vowed to protect them no matter what, believing them strong enough to face the perils she could not. Close to hatching, she carried her eggs away with her rather than leave them behind to be killed when she was set upon. And, realizing that her time was over but their's was soon to begin, she did what few other dragons have ever been able to do: she called upon a hidden reserve of strength and magic to sheild her eggs from the impact as she let them drop the ground, hoping against hope that they would be found ... and knowing it was possible for her noble race to be born anew if Riders bonded once more....
[.Rules
Keep in mind that I have no sympathy for people who don't follow the guidelines. I can and will boot you out and not lose any sleep. In fact, I may just laugh.
-Morph's rules still and always will apply.
-Romance isn't banned but keep it PG-13. Duh.
-Minimal amount of power-playing and God-moding. You know the drift.
-LITERACY. Take a good look at your keyboard. Are you missing any essential keys? No? Good. That means that you should be able to make use of it by typing out posts that have proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Try your best to make decently-sized, interesting posts.
-I'll start the RPG. No one else, or you WILL be booted out.
-You bond with a dragon as a hatchling. Can't be any other way. I mean, the only dragons that are alive are the ones in the eggs. So obviously you're first post will be finding the egg- which will hatch very soon.
-Password's the RPG title.
-If you're going to be away for a couple days, notify use beforehand.
-My Word Is Law.
-Have fun! Seriously. There's not point in role-playing if it becomes a chore.
