Chapter 22: Captured Hearts
“I wish I knew how to work this thing!” Sora moaned.
The computer in the large room was too big and too far advanced for anyone to understand except for the Dark Knights.
“There has to be another way!” Kairi called down.
“But there isn’t! You saw that they used the computer to get Belle up there! They must use this thing for everything in the castle!”
Kairi groaned.
Riku was looking out the door for any sign of Vladimir or Seethe. When he saw someone appear out of the door on the opposite side of the room, he rushed back in.
“They’re coming back!”
He and Sora ran back to the pillar they hid behind before and waited until Vladimir walked in.
As they grew closer, shrieking voices got louder.
“Oh, no! They couldn’t—’’ Belle began, but before she could finish, the door opened and they all fell back to their fake unconsciousness.
Vladimir and Seethe were each dragging two Princesses by the wrists to the wall where the other three Princesses slept soundly. Two by two, Vladimir took them and Seethe activated the computer and they were chained and brought to the top of the wall. Vladimir took a step back and smiled with gratitude.
“We’ve done it, Seethe! Just look! All seven Princesses of Heart in our hands! We’re one step closer to Kingdom Hearts!” he exclaimed.
“Congratulations, Sir,” Seethe said.
Vladimir laughed. “Now we begin faze two of our plan: the elimination of those dreadful Keyblade Wielders.”
“That’s what you think!” Sora yelled.
“SORA! What are you doing?!” Riku yelled.
“Who’s there?” Vladimir called.
Sora jumped out from behind the pillar and shot a spark of lightning at Seethe, knocking him back from the large computer. Seethe lay on the floor motionless.
Vladimir didn’t move from his spot as Sora and Riku both launched for him. Just as they were about to strike, he transported behind them in a blink of an eye. Sora and Riku landed on top of each other with a loud thud.
“Step two, now in progress!” Vladimir shouted, and he transformed back into his werewolf form.
Vladimir charged right at the two of them and they barely got out of the way before sharp claws struck midair. Vladimir managed to accidentally rip the red carpet instead of one of his victims.
Sora got up and struck the top of his Keyblade into the floor, pinning Vladimir’s werewolf body to the ground.
“Get the princesses down”! he yelled to Riku.
Riku obeyed and ran to the computer, still unsure of what to press. Only one way to find out…
A shadow cast on his left and as he spun around, Seethe had his wand pointing right at Riku’s face. Riku dodged a close ice spell and fell to the floor, kicking Seethe back down to the ground. Seethe got up and sent more spells flying in each direction, all merely missing Riku.
“Get him!” Jess called down.
Riku knocked Seethe’s wand out of his hands and sent him flying back with a powerful blow. Seethe fell hard on his stomach, but eyed his wand that was now in front of him. His wand returned to his hand and he sent a powerful dark orb flying right at Riku.
“Riku! Behind you!!”
Riku turned around and again dodged the attack, but it just made things worse. For the dark orb struck a button on the computer, and something was triggered.
Vladimir’s laugh was a deep snarl, and Sora, distracted by the commotion, was knocked off balance and was thrown to the other side of the room. Vladimir turned back into his human form, clothes torn and ripped in places.
The Princesses above started to shriek as a large bolt came down and struck each one of them. The bolt didn’t stop, and slowly their hearts were removed…
“Nice aim, Seethe,” Vladimir said. “Now…we’ve advanced in our plan.”
Both Sora and Riku, on opposite ends, got up slowly and looked up at Kairi and Jess. They were screaming in pain along with the others, and one by one, they all dropped motionless, Jess and Kairi being the last.
“The hearts! We have full power over them!” Vladimir laughed.
The hearts of the Princesses slowly floated down to the large Keyhole in the middle of the table below them, and they were sealed within it. It was as if a glass container magically appeared in the keyhole.
Seethe was now at the computer and he pressed another button, summoning a large, white door behind them.
Kingdom Hearts.
“We’re not gonna let you do this!”
Seethe turned around and saw Sora in the air above him, and slashed his Keyblade through Seethe’s heart. Seethe fell to the floor and he slowly disappeared in the darkness.
Riku and Sora both stood ready for Vladimir to come at them. They knew he needed the Keyblade to finish the job.
Vladimir laughed. “This is great! I get the honor and privilege to destroy both of you.”
Riku ran forward and went to strike when Vladimir grabbed Riku in midair and sent a powerful shock wave through him. Riku’s limp body was thrown to the ground by the fireplace. Now it was just Vladimir and Sora.
“Tell me, Keyblade Master,” Vladimir said as he started to circle around the room. “Do you really think you can stop me?”
Sora started to walk as well, Keyblade firmly in his hands.
“Face it, kid. The Princesses’ hearts are mine, your friend is out cold, you’re too weak, and Kingdom Hearts is mostly in my possession.”
Vladimir stopped. “I won.”
Sora lunged forward and started striking nonstop at Vladimir. Although he was hitting him, Sora seemed to be making no significant damage to Vladimir. He had to have some sort of weakness…
Vladimir yet again shifted into his werewolf faze and sprinted at Sora fast. Thinking fast, Sora tried to figure out a weakness of Vladimir…of a werewolf…
Sora looked up at the high ceiling. He sent up a powerful fire ball up to the ceiling and created a large hole. Pieces of the ceiling came raining down on both Sora and Vladimir.
A feint light came from the hole, and it slowly moved to Vladimir’s position. The moon.
Vladimir couldn’t control his instincts. He let out a loud howl, and it echoed all over the room.
Sora knew that this was his chance; his chance to end this once and for all. He raised his Keyblade and used the strength in his heart to create a powerful beam of light. The beam shot from the tip of his Keyblade and shot Vladimir’s heart. The howl turned into a shriek, and slowly to a whimper as Vladimir fell to the ground. Vladimir’s body arched painfully as the light filled his body, and a large explosion of light filled the room.
When the light faded, Vladimir, in his original state, was crawling on the floor towards Kingdom Hearts.
He held out his hand. “Kingdom Hearts…it’s…”
Sora jumped from behind and slashed his Keyblade through Vladimir. Vladimir stopped and lost his breathe, then finally collapsed.
“gone...” he whispered. His eyes rolled to the back of his head, and he stopped breathing.
