~♯~ Reasons Why AkuRoku Sucks ~♯~
I. AkuRoku makes Axel look like a pedo.
a) pedo is the wrong word, Roxas is not prepubescent
b) pedo is also the wrong word because pedos are interested in children because they find the child-ness sexually arousing, with nothing to do with that child's personality. Axel gives up his life for Roxas. I doubt he did that simply because he found his youth sexually arousing.
c) age does not exist for nobodies
d) some people, like me, actually find age difference and power play awesome (Axel might be older and bigger but Roxas is a hell of a lot stronger, that kind of thing is hot to me ^^
so it's not actually automatically a reason it sucks
e) I have made out with a guy nine years older than me, and I didn't feel like a prepubescent little kid who needed pity and rescuing :/
II. Roxas never cared about Axel's reasons for doing the things he had to do.
In KH2, it did seem as if Roxas was doing all the running, and Axel was doing all the chasing. But that doesn't mean that Roxas didn't care; for the first part of the game he can't even remember. Once he does remember, though he knows he won't go back to the Organisation because they are a bunch of users and assholes, and he wants to find out the truth about himself, that doesn't mean he didn't care about how Axel felt.
You know how I know? Because when Axel, beaten down and at the end of his rope says 'let's meet again in the next life', Roxas doesn't turn away with a cold look and say something bitchy and dismissive like when he ran away from the Organisation; Roxas says 'I'll be waiting'.
So yes, he did appreciate Axel's feelings. He understood what Axel wanted and why, and he gave Axel that hope. And it wasn't just giving Axel hope because he felt sorry for him; play till the end of Coded and I can guarantee you'll find proof that Roxas really did want to be with Axel too.
But he couldn't. Roxas had destiny where Axel couldn't follow, and Roxas knew that. There was just no way that they could be together. It wasn't that Roxas didn't care about Axel's reasons; it was just that in the beginning they pissed him off because he didn't quite understand, then when he realised how much their predicament affected Axel, he understood. And he gave Axel a promise in return, because he knew that no matter how many great and powerful reasons Axel had, it didn't change anything anyway.
III. Axel's sexy when he's single. <3
How does being in a relationship change sexiness? If someone is sexy, they are sexy. Or does this reason perhaps mean 'Axel is easier to fantasise about when he's single'? Who knows.
IV. Because Axel really loves Sora.
I wouldn't be surprised if Axel did love Sora, because Sora and Roxas are two sides of the same coin. It's an interesting thing to explore, but in the face of canon I'd say that Axel cared for Roxas more. I mean, he was trying to steal Roxas away despite knowing Sora would be in a coma forever without it. Then he wasy trying to trick and manipulate Sora to get Roxas back.
You could argue, I guess, that Axel wanted Roxas back because he knew Roxas was the Sora he could have, but I don't really think so. In the Days novels it was pretty clear that Axel was thinking primarily of Roxas when he compared the two, and after CoM he hardly compared them at all. In his secret report he says that he would do anything to stop Roxas being erased, and makes a lot of sappy comments about Roxas and sunsets and how it's not like that with Saix--and even though this is of course meant platonically, it shows that his feelings for Roxas are for Roxas, because of the time they'd spent together, not phantom love for Sora.
Unless you want to argue that it's subconscious, and that's interesting too, but that doesn't change anything. They still went through the same things together, said the same things to eachother. They still had a friendship, and whether or not Axel really loves Sora somewhere inside doesn't really affect that. It still means Axel and Roxas had a relationship after all.
I understand hating a pariring because of hating one character in the pairing (Xion/anyone) but it doesn't really feel like OP material to me. I mean, aren't these meant to be reasons why the ship sucks? I think the ship is more interesting and dramatic because of Roxas. If I wanted to read something fluffy and bff I'd go read Riku/Sora.
VI. Roxas really loves Riku.
Well, he met him once, so I doubt that. Unless you're talking about Roxas chanelling Sora. Because even so, that doesn't change Axel and Roxas' relationship at all.
VII. Axel and Roxas have the same taste in women, not each other!
There's no proof for that
VIII. Xion made Axel blush! So it's possible that he's not gay.
Since when did blush = raging hard on?
IX. AkuRoku is a big cause for unjustified Xion hate.
Hate the haters, then. That still doesn't change a thing about the ship itself.
X. This is Disney. Any more need be said?
A long time ago, when blacks and whites first began to go to the same schools in the states, there was this big uproar in a particular community because the white kids didn't want to go to their prom with a black girl. In the end, they organised a secret prom for everyone in the whole grade, and when that black girl turned up to the official prom--she was the only one there.
Recently a similar thing happened to a gay girl. She didn't want to wear a dress and wanted to take her girlfriend, so they first tried banning her from the prom. Then when they were forced because of discrimination laws, they instead held a secret prom for everyone else, and she and a handful of other social outcasts were the only ones to turn up to the official prom.
Discrimination is a pretty sickening thing, and I hope that over time all of it fades into acceptance.
Recently Disney had their first black princess.
I wonder if in a few years they will have their first gay one.
