Because her relationship with Matt came out of nowhere, she had like no real arc in Tri, and I liked her better during her tomboy phase.

Wait, what were we talking about?

I don't hate Sora; I hate Xehanort (not love-to-hate; "Shut up, Wesley!" hate).

The thing is, now we're stepping into philosophical territory. When do you hate a character and when you hate how it's being handled?
If I'm bored and dislike basically every Sora moment in DDD, I'm still just hating the new direction or have I embraced hating the character?
I'm not being sassy or anything, I'm legit curious.

Naturally if you hate a character from the get-go you're probably just hating the character and not how it's being handled, but I'm not sure if the opposite is also true.
I don't know if what I dislike is how Sora is portrayed now or just the character himself.
I'd also like to add: far from being a rule, but real people also change. Kingdom Hearts has been around for more than 15 years now and that means children became teenagers and teenagers became young adults and so on. It is entirely possible our own tastes are changing regarding characters and motivation, I was a huge Roxas fan in my "no one understands me I wanna escape from this reality" adolescent years, but that fire has dwindled since then.

That depends on how you felt about the character before and after the story in question. Being a fan is more about an emotional attachment than a logical one so it gets pretty heated. Emotions swirl together and it's not easy to separate at first but perspective could help.

When you don't like a direction but like the story and characters you can separate the two. It feels more like uncertainty or regret rather than outright hate. Sometimes hating a direction could lead you hate characters you didn't hate before like by the end of DDD Lea was the only one i liked and was invested in.

It's not an exact science.

For all we know people could come back around to Sora in KH3 or the new animated cartoon if it gets picked up so not all hope is lost.

Clearly Sora from No Game No Life.

Nah, my friend, he was talking about Sora, that very important guy, yknow, from Shippuden since we talked about Naruto before...
