Super Mario RPG was the first game I really obsessed over as a kid. I’ve been waiting so long for it to come to a modern platform. I’m glad this remake is along the lines of a remaster and isn’t changing much of the core elements.

Mario Ambassador? Cool that they made a new job for him since he apparently doesn't want to fully retire but what does a Mario Ambassador even do? Just talk with people at cons?

Wish I'd gotten his autograph but he was at Southern Fried Gaming Expo last year. (We got the voice of Bowser and Peach over here this year). Not sure what that means but maybe he'll be at more cons.

Did meet him once at a con. He hosted a mini SSBU tournament while there.

The question to me is how much of this retirement due to him having difficulties still doing the voice vs. Nintendo dropping him because they want Game Mario to sound more like Movie Mario?

Finally beat Tears of the Kingdom, thought it was a magical experience. What is everyone's thoughts on TotK?

I'm surprised the story wasn't spoiled for me since it took me so long to finish it, I had no idea the light dragon was Zelda.

170+ hours & I haven't beaten it yet. I think armor upgrading is too much of a grind.

I finished my playthrough of Tears of the Kingdom at about 135 hours. That was with all Dragon Tears, all Shrines, all Light Roots, all main story, all side stories, and then whatever side quests I felt like doing. It wasn't 100%, but it was pretty much everything I cared about doing.

Update: Finally beat TotK. Man that took a while.

The sky islands and depths were so cool to explore but including simple caves added so much to the game. BOTW will feel weird to play now without all these areas to explore, not to mention the zonai and fusing.

But I didn’t like the menuing. Flipping through that gargantuan line of stuff to put things onto your arrows was such a chore.

And I think the game is stingy with drops. I put a billion hours into this game and still couldn’t upgrade a lot of the armors because I didn’t have enough elemental lizardmen tails or butterflies. I never used it myself but what do you people think of the duplication trick?

BotW Champions as avatars would be nice. Though probably can't have that many avatars at once so they might make it that you must choose between the champion or sage.

Also the return of Kass.

I... did not expect that. I'm not the biggest fan of BOTW or TOTK, but they're successful enough that I thought Nintendo would release as much DLC as possible. Particularly because I'm not sure they can do this a third time without running into fatigue.

I was sort of at least expecting TotK content coming to HW:AoC. Gimme that playable Beefcake Ganondorf!

Anyway, Switch 2 rumors are getting WILD:

FF7R coming to Switch 2. Looks and runs like a PS5 game.

UE5 Matrix Awakens demo shown running on Switch 2 with Ray tracing.

Thoughts on the recent Nintendo direct?

Us Mario RPG fans are eating good right now. Legend of the Seven Stars AND The Thousand-Year Door? Cool.
Mario vs Donkey Kong was a GBA fave of mine, glad it's being brought back. And Peach's game looks pretty interesting.

I just can't believe they're bringing back Trace Memory. Holy heck, I grew up believing I was the sole person that played that game.

I don't get doing a MvDK remake. They can just put the original on NSO. Would it have really that much extra work to make it a sequel instead?

TTYD announcement caught so many of us off guard. At most, we thought there may be a port with other GC games for Switch, but a remake of that game we thought Nintendo closed the books on was a total shock. Kudos to whoever was in charge on keeping that information under wraps until announcement

Mario Wonder is going to be the surprise of 2023-- I think a lot of people (myself included) went into TOTK thinking it'd be a game changer when it was really just an (albeit impressive) expansion of ideas already present in BOTW. Mario Bros Wonder on the other hand is the surprise. Some wished for something like it, but a lot of gamers probably didn't even know they WANTED a new, fresh, over the top creative 2D Mario game.

Maybe I'm absolutely crazy, but I think a lot of people will view Nintendo's 2023 as the year Super Mario Bros. Wonder dropped. That funny plumber has not let me down yet
