I need help on this. Lately I've been thinking of starving or upchucking my food. For the past 3 years or so I've only been able to gain weight. Every diet I've tried has failed and exercising doesnt help.( I dont like sports so I do things like push-ups, sit-ups or stuff on those exercise T.v. programs for about 30 minutes-1 hour)
I've tried everything I can think of doing besides starving or upchucking my food. The kids at my school are half and half on the subject. Some of the people at school tell me "Rock on Shade!! I support you!!!" but more of my closer friends keep telling me " No dont, if you starve yourself your going to die.!" My friend Victoria keeps threaten to tell a teacher that I'm thinking of starving myself.
My family has weight problems period, the only one you'll see skinny is my brother and that's because he starved himself when he was little because everyone kept teasing him.

I've made a positive and negative list made up of things people at school tell me about what will happen if I starve myself.

positive:
-I'll weight less
-I'll become thinner
-I'll be happier
-people wont tease me as much
-boys will like me more
-I'll become more healthy
-I'll be able to exercise easier

Negative:
-I'll die

I've looked at this list so many times and I really dont know what to do.

Should I try starving or not?

~And please be serious, dont come and post "WELL, LIEK STOP GOING TO BURGER KING SO MUCH LOL!! or other crap like that.

So you want to try the Mary Kate diet? Don't..just don't.

Starving yourself means you are not getting energy to any part of your body. So you can't do a damn thing if you starve. And then you die...So I hope you aren't thinking death is a risk worth taking.

Making yourself barf is about as worse. I can give you a lot of examples of people who tried and made themselves worse. I mean, you have to be a complete idiot to think barfing means weight lost. The fat you see has already passed through your stomach. Barfing just gets rid of the current food items you ate recently. Making yourself barf will just hurt. Think about it. There is stomach acid in it. Think of it hitting your throat multiple times. Not exactly good.

So, here is the smart way to handle weight. Healthy eating, exercise at least three times a week, stay off the fatty foods, and that is about it. Its not the fastest way to lose weight. But it is better then starving or force-barfing.

positive:
-I'll weight less
-I'll become thinner

Negative:
-I'll die
-I won't have as much energy when I work out
-I'll become anorexic/bolemic
-I'll be less healthy then when I started
-It could progress to the point where I will be so thin there won't be any meat on me, which will result in boys being equally as disgusted

Fixed

By the looks of it, there's no way this could go wrong, good luck.

Your positive outlook of the situation is the most ignorant thing I've ever seen. You shouldn't give a damn what boys, or anyone for that matter thinks. You're 13 years old, you're a kid, it is not something you should be worrying about. Do some running, work out, crap like that. Vomiting daily doesn't work, as UK already pointed out. And starving, well, you'll just lose energy and make things difficult.

And trust me, your weight will not determine what boys think of you. No guy wants a stick though, or an unhealthy girl. 'Cause then they complain about their weight and won't touch the food, then you won't get a guy at all.

Who wants to listen to that all day? You need to get over this childish stump and realize there are more adult ways to handle the situation. Because basically you will die. And your death will only be your fault.

Your body will slowly continue to lose fat, and your obsession will grow. You'll come to the point that you are literally nothing but skin and bones, you'll be on your last leg, and then your energy will be gone, you'll be force-fed and stuck on a bed.

You'll either die, or be stuck like this for years until you've regained a healthly point of living. And let's not forget all the years of rehab.

So ask yourself, do you want to lose years of your life on some unhealthy obsession? Or do things the right way and just work out?

I suggest you dont do it, sure it seems like exercise doesnt work but try making a routine if it helps and get your closest buds to back you up. If you want try to challenge your buds to a short race and keep adding distance, or try making an incentive like if you run a certain amount of miles you get to watch a favorite tv show. You cant start with anything very big, just take it really slow and then keep adding up. Anyway there is a difference between being thin and being healthy, remember that. Starving yourself or force puking is not the answer.

Fat is basically stored energy. When you eat, excess energy is stored as fat. What I reconmend you do is eat healthy food and lower your calorie intake and exercise before eating. This might be extreme for now, but if you burn off more calories than you take in, you'll lose weight. But remember you need to have energy to be able to start burnig your fat, so eat small portions throughout the day. It is also good to keep up your metabolism (rate of chemical reaction, basically how fast you use energy) by eating really small, but more meals during the day

There is a difference between the workout needed to lose a certain number of pounds. If you're just worried about pounds, remember that muscle weighs more than fat. PM me please, I'd like to help you out further

Listen to your closest friends. :/ That's all I can say on that.

I've made a positive and negative list made up of things people at school tell me about what will happen if I starve myself.

positive:
-I'll weight less

Yay? I weigh 94 pounds. I eat consistently and constantly. It's called a high metabolism that's going to catch up in a few years. Weighing less is not something to be proud of.

-I'll become thinner

Being skinny is NOT something that's worth upchucking for. Take it from me. It's not all it's cracked up to be.

-I'll be happier

Maybe. I doubt it. You'll pry be a lot sicker. Upchucking is going to rot away the lining of your esophagus. You're going to lose a lot of nutrients. You're going to be worn out. I feel terrible after just a little bit of a coughing up phlem, much less full out upchucking.

-people wont tease me as much

HA. I get a LARGE amount of anorexic jokes. I get teased about being skinny. "geez, don't you ever eat?" "Anorexia? Just look at Sarah." So on and so forth. There's so much stuff. People will tease people no matter what they look like, and they do it to make themselves feel better. Just shrug it off.

-boys will like me more

Nope. I'm going to guess, cause I've never kissed, but I'm going to assume that kissing someone who upchucks pry tastes like vomit after a while. :/

-I'll become more healthy

No way. You'll get sicker. You won't be getting the nutrients you should be, your esophagus will slowly rot away. You'll wish you never did it.

-I'll be able to exercise easier

Balderdash. Maybe, but not really. Thin has it's disadvantages: not enough muscle to use to exercise.

Negative:
-I'll die

bingo.

Throwing up into a toilet after you eat food will not help you. It will destroy your insides, you'll feel terrible. You'll have to constantly brush your teeth (not a bad thing, but tedious). It's going to wear you out.

Don't do it. My best suggestion to getting thinner is to eat healthy foods and a balanced diet. Exercise to lose those excess calories. Try to gain muscle and lose weight. Watch what you intake. When you come home, don't sit down and eat snacks but maybe carrots or something.

And finally, talk to a doctor, they have the best advice.

God, this world is dillusional. Look at you. This is sick.

The girls you see on magazines are not the true American girl. The "Ideal Woman" is 5'8", 110 lbs, and has a DD bust. The average American girl is 5'5", 140 lbs, and I don't remember the bust size. Recently, a magazine's cover girl was completely CGI. As in, REAL WOMEN weren't good enough to be the Ideal Woman anymore. THAT IMAGE is NOT the real woman.

Looking emaciated and looking healthy are not the same. You think that protruding ribs, a tiny - but bloated-looking - waist, huge-looking knees, and bones clearly visible throughout your body are beautiful? That's sad.

Bulemia can give you major esophagous and liver damage, you'll be emaciated, your face will become puffy and red, you'll be forced to - and addicted to - vomit up to twenty times a day. It won't be induced vommiting after a while - it'll be an automatic thing. Your digestive track will corrode. You won't be that ideal, fake woman. You'll look like a starved child with puffy features from a third world country. Yeah, a lot of boys are turned on by that.[/sarcasm]

Anorexia has a huge death percentage. You'll be more susceptable to sickness, your immune system will be trash. Same with your digestive track - you'll be unable to eat food soon enough. You'll be incredibly weak, and you will look horrible. Your hair would probably fall out - your body would be that weak. There is a huge chance of your dying.

People make jokes about everything. No one has NEVER been insulted. EVERYONE has been teased, or they're the ones teasing others, and they'll get their come-uppance.

You've gone - what? - thirteen years without a boy? You can stand to wait a little longer. They're not that important, and aren't you a little young? The way the seem to control how YOU feel about YOURSELF is sick. They're not that important. You need to love YOURSELF before you can love someone else.

Now, choose. Would you rather be overweight and alive - with the ability to exercise and improve over time, or would you rather be dead and look like a dead tree?

Your choice.

Congrats on being fully aware of all this, and willingly trying to do something about it. You should be proud of yourself for that alone. :)

However, you're not going the right way about it by considering starving yourself and making yourself throw up. Bulimia is not the way to go.

Take a visit to your doctor. If you really don't lose weight easily, there is a chance you have a thyroid disorder. Nothing serious, it just affects your metabolism, which could make it difficult for you to lose weight. (My boyfriend has this.)

Just keep eating healthily (sp? o_O) and sticking to an exercise regime. Also, follow any advice your doctor might give you. I know that sounds like everyone else's advice, but with time, it will work. I hope this helps you, good luck! ^-^

Should I try starving or not?

What's on the positive list is worse than death?

Everyone else has said it all, tsuki. If you can't change your weight by any sensible means, you've got to change your outlook on your weight. Embrace it, if you will, especially when there are millions of people starving worldwide, emaciated to the bone.

If you're eating healthly, image is the only real "advantage" you would get out of starving. I agree with everyone else who has posted here. Don't do it.

EDIT: The 2 people who voted 'yes' in the poll deserve to be slapped. Hard.

what kind of stupid idiot are you?! your asking us how to handle your weight problem?! if you're so stupid you have to ask a forum about how to solve your personal issues than you're one sorry loser. I mean, COME ON! you have PARENTS and a DOCTOR! and any normal person would know NOT to throw up or not eat. and if you're worried about people teasing you, nobody likes an anorexic or a bulemic. and this wouuldn't be a problem is you weren't so lazy and just EAT RIGHT and WORK OUT. if you keep a definite plan of eating right and getting enough exercise, and don't choose to taking the loser way out, you'd get some results. unless you have a slow metabolism or something. but the point is, not only is that bad for you, it's lazy and stupid, and it won't do any good. Look, I'm sorry for being so hard, but really, this is a no-brainer, how can anyone think its okay to starve yourself? How can you think it's okay to make yourself throw up? you're gonna go too far if you do that you'll be really thin and your throat will be sore cuz of throwing up STOMACH ACID. and you wouldn't want that, now would you?

Fact: Obese people, if not eating, will starve to death before actually getting noticeably thinner.

Just throwing that out there.

Keep up your exercise routine, whilst eating around 2000 calories a day.

That's all I'd suggest to you. 2000 calories will give you plenty meals, if you watch what you eat.

Losing 1-2lbs a week is GOOD. It's the most efficient means of making sure the weight stays off. Crash dieting will most likely result in you putting it all back on.

Speaking from experience.

My best friend is anorexic. It's not a pretty sight and it affects not only themselves but the people around them in a very negative way.

She's always tired, often moody, lashes out at us when she thinks we're 'interfering'... and it's hard for any of us to trust her anymore. We're walking on eggshells around her because we're worried we've said the wrong thing. Anorexia and bulimia leads to a lot of other problems, both physical and psychological, and it's not just you who's going to be affected by it. You'll end up distanced from your friends, your parents will wonder what they did wrong, and you're just going to make yourself sick in the end, not beautiful.

You're worried because you're gaining weight, right? I went through a phase like that in my preteen years where I just gained weight not matter how hard I tried to stay healthy. It happened to a couple of other girls in our group too It's just your age. You lose the weight again once you hit about sixteen, more than likely.

And Demon's right, it is extremely uncomfortable dating someone who is starving themselves. I'm not going to say that you're too young to date however because that'd be hypocritical so I'll just add that most boys who will be worth your time would rather that you were happy and healthy than thin.

It looks like you got your advice. Notice how everyone discouraged both starving and vomiting? They're all right. Both ways are serious and harmful diets. Loosing weight shouldn't be a problem you obsess over in the first place. But the world is hard, and I know how you feel. Think about it~ What would you accomplish in starving yourself besides thiness? That's the only 'good' thing that can come of it. The health risks are extreme, but as Dense pointed out, the mental risks are also bad. What you should really do is talk to your doctor about possible and healthy ways of loosing weight. Doctor specialize in this sort of thing. They can help!

And talk to your friends and family. Maybe boys and other people will make fun of you, but your friends and family will always stick up for. I find that overweight people aren't made fun of as much nowadays, but if you are having that problem, talk to someone.

Have a nice day!~

Making me feel bad aint going to change a damn thing I do. Your post did not convince me much.

Sorry guys that it took me a long time to reply back. (been busy) I've read through all your post and thank you for your time and thought.

I'm still having problems setting up a routine to do. I exercise about 4 days a week for 30 minutes, I usually dont reach eating 2,000 calories(is that bad?)

I wanna know is there anything else I can do to help?

Also I cant go to the doctors until next month or so.
