I'm certain this trailer is 80% misdirection. Many are speculating that Snoke is actually talking about Rey and that Luke is referring to Ben, tricking the audience. After all they're saying we won't know what's good or bad, light or dark at the end of this movie.
Also
I should have been more clear. I was referring to Ben’s call to the light and Rey’s training on the dark side. There’s talks(rumors) about those two switching.
Yeah...a bit of me is put off tbh. Which is sad. We shall see I guess, I just hate when things ride the hype train right into the ground by overdoing it lol. At least take a freakin break again....
I guess it says a trilogy but not like if its mainline or maybe some kind of spin off trilogy. I would prefer the latter.
Spoiler ShowI think a lot of what I had problems with can be summed up with "What was the point in that". The entire premise of the movie to me was that there was no point, and I don't know if THAT was the point, where it's hopeless?
For example, I'm going to start with the entire mission where Finn and Rose go on their mission to find the Codebreaker. Of course, they don't find Codebreaker, they find someone else. Who they think can break the codes and save the day, but, you know. He doesn't. He betrays them. And in fact, makes it all the worse when they start firing on the people escaping. So basically, because they interfered, Finn, Poe and Rose effectively killed all those people. Soooooo, what's the point?
Speaking of Poe, what was the point of the mutiny? I mean, that was kinda interesting. I was like "Yes! Finally, someone doing something!" and then, you know, it turns out it was all for nothing. I mean, Leia shoots him and then wow, they're leaving anyway. So what was the point?
Rey's story was pretty much entirely "What's the point to me". What was the big black hole about? The dark side? Luke mentions that and comments that she never "pulled away" and immediately went towards it. So I guess Rey is going to the dark side? Well, no, it never comes up again. By the way, what was the point in the hole? She goes down, clicks, and has a lot of copies of her, and when she asks to see her parents, she see's herself. Is that where she realises her parents were nobody? If anything, I do like the idea that her parents were nobody, but you know, they did try and make it a big thing before. So why DOES Rey have such vivid memories of the island, and the Jedi texts? Why DOES she have a connection to Kylo to the point they can basically Facetime each other. And here's another "What was the point". Snoke? Who the eff was he? Was he just a random guy at the end of the day that was strong in the force? Where did he come from? Where did he go? Was that pointless too?
You know the scene where Finn, pretty much ready to sacrifice himself to destroy that big cannon? To save everyone? Oh wait, no, Rose comes out and knocks them both out of the way and the cannon was fired anyway. So basically she's taken out of commission for no real reason, but that's okay because she loves Finn now, I guess? What was the point? The kiss????
Now, one of the great scenes, I think for The Last Jedi has to be Luke coming in and confronting Kylo Ben. Okay, he survives a bit of cannon fire. That's weird. If they hadn't made it that he was just an apparition, then I would have been a bit disappointed. Imagine suddenly making one of the Star Wars heroes a Mary Sue. The "Strike me down" comment got me all giggly too. And then he disappeared, and I thought "THIS IS AMAZING. SO HE SURVIVED. THIS WAS SO CLEVER I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO DIE" and then he died "at peace". Why? I mean, I probably would have gotten it if he had been there and stricken down by Kylo, but he was at peace as it happened, akin to his mentor? But like they had him survive to die. I don't get the point.
Mixed with a lot of the weird animal placements that feel like they were the Ewoks all over again for toy designs, I was a bit confused. I still maintain Leia flying through space is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.
Regardless, I'm glad people liked it, and hopefully I will in time if I find out why a lot of what happened happened.
