were you in Brisbane with the rest of the US Navy a month or so ago?

Yeah. I think a few guys out there got into some trouble during our stay. I know some people weren't fond of us being around either...but that's normal. The CVN 73 George Washington deploys around all pacific regions, and this time we got our first tour to Australia. There was some trouble at the Great Barrier Reefs as some of the jets had jettisoned bombs to increase lift i believe, and that stirred some trouble for you guys.

Overall though we got along with Australia's navy personnel when they boarded our ship, and the stay in Brisbane and Goldcoast was really nice. I was hoping a family friend of mine who lives in Sydney would come visit me on my short stay there, but she was busy. I hope we didn't cause a lot of trouble for you guys. Australia is a really nice place (including outside of Brisbane).

I didn't notice anything bad about your visit. The only thing I was aware of was walking through the city after a lecture and seeing a lot of African-American black people. Which is just something we don't have. And you guys dress totally different. So it was weird. I don't think people mind it too much when the US military comes to visit. It's good for tourism. It's just Brisbane has a lot of history for this sort of thing. Have you guys heard about the Battle of Brisbane?

although my girlfriend works at the casino so she really appreciated the American custom for tipping.

Oathy actually made the outfit for me, but I made the ears and got everything together and arranged the wig.

My friend at the con also took some more non-selfie pics of me too that I'll prolly post a link to later in the cosplay thread, but yeah, I'm super fucking proud of how that cosplay turned out.

We got a gist of the story on the riots, but not in full blown detail. Yes i realized as a black person i was a rarity, lol. I wasn't treated any differently though, but i didn't think i would be. Yeah we understood how high your minimum wage was in comparison to the States, and i have to admit for that the 4 days i did go out in town, i blew through maybe over $2000 easy. Australia is truly expensive, but i loved every day that i stayed there.

I didn't think tipping was out of the norm, but i'm pretty sure Brisbane made a lot of money off of us just staying their for a week. As with any other port, sailors tend to spend money through the magical depths of their pockets, and considering they stick us on a boat working everyday with crappy food, and no drinking among other things....we go crazy at ports.
