Hey guys, I couldn't find a thread asking the question as simply as this, so sorry if there is one, but what is the general consensus of KHI on what the next game to come out in the series will be? Thanks

Nomura (like Sign said) a "lighter" game is in the works. As far as what lighter means, that's all up to speculation.
People have said that a KH Theatrhythm may be possible, so would an HD Collection, or something we may not know about.

He has also said he'd like to get back onto consoles and KH3D is the game that leads to KH3

Tetsuya Nomura, Director of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, expressed in an interview that, right now, he'd like to develop a light KH game. It is currently being speculated that by light, he meant something easy and fast to develop like, for example, like others have suggested, a High-Definition collection, which consists of giving another company the games and they're in-charge of upgrading the resolution (and if possible, add some things). Another theory is that, a person involved in the development of THEATRHYTHM: Final Fantasy said that the idea of developing a THEATRHYTHM: Kingdom Hearts crossed his mind. Both ideas could be classified as light, seeing as how that an HD collection takes a couple of months to develop (aprox. four to six months), as for the idea of a Kingdom Hearts fighting-rhythm game, they already have the engine, all they can do is replace the art and soundtrack.

In summation;
Both proposed fan ideas have high probabilities of happening, if not, both of them can happen.

Nomura's also expressed interest in developing an iOS game & is researching how to go about that. While that could end up being anything (including a new IP), an ipad/iphone KH game would fit the bill as a light title.

& before you all complain & say it wouldn't work, remember that Coded was originally a mobile phone game.

And coded was probably the most ignored game in the series even by people who played it in Japan. Also, it was free-to-play so SE didn't really start making a profit from it (outside of the profit they'd get from mobile companies) until Re:coded.

Of course an iOS game would be different in that there is a larger userbase of iOS products, and would probably cost something to download...it just isn't very appealing.

The other ideas have seem to have better reception than at Nomura's iOS game hint...

This basically covers iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone, two of the three which people are ALWAYS buying the next version, be it S or a different number.

That would be more work and make less money...

Well maybe not a theatrythm, but some little app in the same Avatar Style they chose for it.

IMO, it seems like something that would be on iOS.

iDK, if there's to be a KH on a new platform, I'd want it to at least somewhat be a proper adventure than a mini game thing. Otherwise what's the point?

Well the point is that Nomura recognizes there are a ton of games spread out on different systems, so a smaller and irrelevant title would be fine.

Specially how he said he aims to release a KINGDOM HEARTS game on a yearly basis. :v
