Putting a large animal in a small tank, to them at least, builds stress. Considering how many attacks actually happen, you would think they would have a way to aid the victims before this happens.

Knowing how most people are going to react, the orca would be probably be put down if it has a prior history of violence towards human trainers though it's not like it did for shit and giggles. I would kill someone too if I was crammed in some small tank.

Probably not. This isn't like a dog, who has had centuries of time to be tamed from its wolf cousins. This isn't a random violent nature. This is how the orca reacts to an unnatural environment. It would be cruel to end its life because humans are forcing it into an unnatural habitat.

To be fair to organizations like these, they don't just force healthy animals out of their environment to make a few bucks. They save and raise hurt/sick/injured animals and if they are able to return to their environment, then they release them. Otherwise, they keep them and use them to teach the public.

Still, they need to take real precautions in either preventing this or stopping it when it happens.

Two things. One, orcas are dolphins. The term killer whale is a mistranslation of the spanish term "whale killer". Two, murder is a human concept. Animals don't commit murder.
True, true..... They hunt  joking

anyways when i herd this i was just like "O".... Hope they dont kill Shamu now or set him Free.....

That's true. Can we all agree and say that it's an unfortunate incident but hey that's what happens when you try dealing with mother nature and move on?

It's a secret to everybody.
Bottom line is: The "killer whale" was horny and suffering from sexual tension and was tired of being "on display". Two things that could cause the best of us to go insane (unless you're a porn star). The victim may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. This may sound comical, but I'm dead serious. My prayers go out to the victim's family.

Wow. Let's all sit down and discuss the psychological thinking patterns of the orca, shall we?
Didn't know you all were such experts on orcas.

Bottom line, it was a horrible accident. I feel sorry for the trainer's family =\.

But I did kinda laugh at the shoe part too.

So you think orcas mate by thrashing the partner about?

That'd be some insane shit to see.
Her puny human body, being thrased around in the water, completely engulfed by the whale.
I'd fuckkkin' trip.
Probably try to record it with my phone or some shit, so I could go back and spaz on it when I'm high.

Hardly surprising considering it's a predatory sea animal - which means it's supposed to live in large, open environments and be able to hunt things that actually provide a challenge - that was stuck in a tiny tank and hand fed tiny morsels of food eventually went and attacked its owner.

Food is hardly a problem. They get fed every day. Orcas in the wild are lucky enough to get anything during a hunt. It was either playing or so stressed that it immediately went to rage on the thing that fell into its tank.

That woman did something wrong. Sorry, but that's not how trained animals work. They don't attack randomly. Especially not animals that have been trained for so many years.

One of the following is what actually happened:
1) She did something wrong, either purposely or accidentally, that provoked the whale.

2) She regularly mistreats the whale and thus the whale didn't want her on it's back.(Hopefully, this isn't the case. Very possible though, not gonna rule it out.)

I can't blame Tilikum for what happened. It's quite clear he was provoked by something she did, be it accident or on purpose. These technically are wild animals and will attack something or someone if they are provoked.

I am happy that they will not put him down.
