I played the heck out of the original, and I actually found the story gripping...eventually. It does take a little while, but I really loved it. But yeah, I mean I even did all the post-game story and beat the super boss so yeah
I actually haven't finished the alchemy side mission and all the familiar taming because they are both tedious as crap...but that's about it. So I highly recommend everyone saying they need to finish it now for the sequel do so, because yeah it was a good experience. I genuinely got invested, and the world and such was really nice and interesting. Even the story twists I predicted before they happened felt like a good kind of predicting instead of like a "yeah yeah, I called that ages ago" kind of feeling, which I feel like doesn't always happen so I really enjoyed that.
Also, this trailer made me scream more than the FFVII one, but mostly because I have been rooting for a sequel to this but I wasn't sure if it would happen.
So that means Level 5's mystery PS4 game wasn't another Dark Cloud... I was way too hopeful but at least we've got ps2 classics and a Ni No Kuni sequel.
I just hope they improve on everything wrong with the first, then they'd have a near perfect game. The gameplay was a bit tedious but I powered through it regardless because the rest of the game was brilliant, until the end. The problem with the ending is that it was tacked on so they could add something extra in the ps3 version despite the story ending perfectly in the DS version. Maybe if they put more thought into it then it would have been fine to add the final chapter. However, since this is a ps4 exclusive it might not happen this time around.
That's basically what it is with incredibly stupid AI party members. I don't recall any time all my party members survived with me. The gameplay needs a lot of work but it's passable, they just need to improve on it,
Wait...so where did the DS version end? I have not looked into anything about it. Was it
when you beat Shadar? Cuz I mean that did feel like the ending in some ways, so I could see that being it. But it was also super weird and unfinished since the White Witch was barely even a thing up to that point? Like, we all knew she was there, it wasn't like a complete ass pull like some other final bosses, so it would have felt wrong not to fight her. Also I liked learning about her...not as much as Shadar and Elicia admittedly but yeah. Also, I kind of liked the weird creepy tone shift with the zombie like enemies. So, I guess I personally liked the end part of the game, but I get what you mean.
The very very end was just kind of...abrupt though. Like, it felt like it needed a few more scenes, so that was annoying but other than that. Totally agree about the party AI being annoying though. I am expecting something more refined, but they didn't show any gameplay so...
