The 17th-century book Leviathan by a certain Thomas Hobbes presented a thesis that strong, centralized government is necessary to protect mankind from its own base nature and self-serving desires.

Having seen how much internet forums can be chaotic so easily, I came to the realization that internet administration is too lenient.

This forum needs a stricter moderator. This forum is to make itself infamous if not for a ruthless, barely democratic administration to keep users in control.

No threats are to be issued. No god complexes are to be developed.

Just a rant that I felt like publishing here, in Forum Insanity.

-stares at copy of Leviathan- Yes, because we are all inherently chaotic and will smash our neighbor's head in for their livestock and post non-stop porn because we are so base, we need a stricter administration running our already communistic site about a video game.

You are right! We all need to cower beneath an all-powerful leader to keep the peace. Oh wait this is the internet, I can do whatever the bonk I want!

Hobbes also believed that should a ruler threaten the life of any one man, that one man gains the right to defend himself.

So, to end this autocracy before it even begins, I shall poke a moderator until he finds me annoying enough to threaten my rights into reinstatement.

Hobbes did make some decent contributions to numerous fields, but he was a big grump who thought that people were inherently evil and needed to be controlled, which is far too extreme in my opinion. There needs to be a balance between freedom and law.

I like Locke. Locke was the maaaaaan. IIRC, he felt that laws/government/civil societies should be there solely to protect one's rights: life, liberty, and property. He also talked about the mind being a blank slate naturally and that your experiences shape it. It was so cool learning about him. Voltaire too, because he was such an interesting and eccentric guy. But yeah, I'm going off on a tangent.

Anyway, I think the mods we have are awesome, and I'm not just saying that. I really don't see how having a stricter mod would make the forums better.

im still trying to figure out what kind of harmful "self-serving desires" could possibly be carried out on a forum that would need to be oppressed.
